Post Putting on a show in Kutztown, PA
I'm putting on a show at Kutztown University(Kutztown, PA), 3 weeks is enough time to book everything and get permission and such, I'm assuming. This is my first show I'm putting together and the university requires a lot of things to get done. It's all in an effort to start a concert committee organization on campus next year. Any help would be great.

First, let me start off by asking if any bands are open on the 24th that'd be willing to play if said show did happen. Anybody else, suggestions would be nice even if I just tabled this idea until next year.

I'll be honest, it might be a bit stressful to book something three weeks ahead of time, especially if it's your first show. It can be done though, as long as your venue (in this case, KU) is cool with it. Just make sure you have a sound guy and make sure he/she is legit (I've dealt with some unreliable people in the past). Also, promote it like CRAZY! Make a Facebook event about the show and message attendees to remind them about it, tell other bands to post MySpace bulletins/Twitter messages/whatever else about the show, and post the show info wherever else you can think of. Don't just rely on Internet promotion though. Post flyers all around campus, hand flyers out to people, go to malls, go to other shows, etc. That's all I can think of at this time.

As far as band suggestions go, I'll let you know later because I need to sleep haha.

Hope my advice helped and good luck!

Yeah, dude. To be honest, with a few exceptions, I'm inclined to agree: three weeks SEEMS like enough lead time but really isn't. Your call though. Seriously best of luck. As far as bands go, I guess it depends on your / your club or organization's / your school's budget for such an event.

Running on 0 budget at the moment but hoping to give all of the ticket sales to the artist + maybe sell food and give that to the artists too. Maybe get a small amount from the club because the advisor loves me. Plus, I'm in contact with the director of student services so maybe we do have a budget. Who knows?

2 maybes from My Heart To Joy and Snowing? Thanks for the help, guys. I'm gonna gauge it as I go if it's plausible.

Kevin and Sean are right about the time. As you do more shows you'll realize that the more time you have to book and promote a show the better. Shows on short notice can definitely be done and sometimes can be done and sometimes can be way more fun. i.e. the La Dispute last minute show (right kev?).

If there is any advice that I can give it's the following:

-Don't expect your first show to be awesome
-Take care of touring bands, even if the show isn't a huge success. Remember that the local kids will want to see the touring bands.
-Try to keep in mind other things that are happening in the area that could effect your turnout
-Promote! Promote! Promote! Sean's right about the flyers. It might seem like a lot of extra work but if anything it puts the flyers into kids hands

Good luck!
